Created in the 1970's, Fat City was envisioned as Metairie's answer to the French Quarter - a compact entertainment and nightlife district filled with clubs, bars, restaurants, and high-rise buildings. By the 1980's, it was booming, popular with locals and tourists who wanted a Bourbon Street-style scene without crossing the parish line.
